Join us for a unique twist on a basic inlay pendant! In this cobblestone inlay class near Tampa Bay, you'll learn to create a multi-stone mosaic by cutting cabochons to fit into custom settings that you'll fabricate in class before cutting your stones.

In this jewelry making course near Tampa Bay (Classes near St. Petersburg Tampa Bay), students will learn all the fundamental skills required to work with metal clays and be successful with silver metal clay products. This class is ideal for beginners, as a refresher course, or for experienced users who wish to teach metal clay jewelry making.
Students will practice fundamental techniques including rolling, texturing, cutting, carving, sculpting, molding, refining, firing, and polishing. Extra time is devoted to discussing firing processes, and each student learns both torch firing and kiln firing techniques.
Students will complete five projects, including a pair of earrings with a fireable stone, a double-textured pendant with syringe detail, wrapped beads, a sculpted toggle clasp, and a wrapped ring with a fireable stone. The class utilizes multiple types of clays to ensure each student learns the appropriate usage of each type.
Students receive kits that include clay, all stones and findings necessary to complete the projects, and a few miscellaneous tools. Upon completing the projects and lecture time, students will take a short written test. Each student will receive a Certificate of Completion from Sawtooth School for Visual Art and an 8% discount on clays at Clay Revolution and participating suppliers.

Join us for this comprehensive certification course and enhance your jewelry-making skills!
Students will construct a top inlaid ½-inch cuff (3 styles) using sterling silver sheet, square wire with hard solder and Pripps flux, then add additional side design detail, form and top inlay stone. Students can bring basic silver tools (favorite jewelers saw, forging hammer, rawhide, etc.), pocketknife or scribe, though all tools needed will be available to use. Students need to bring a slab or four pieces of tumbled rock to inlay. Bring something that calls you or is exceptional, it makes the cuff. Pattern stones do very well with plain colored stone. There will be rock available, but most people usually have something that is special already. Lunch will be provided by the club.

Lab Fee: Included in cost of the workshop - All Sterling Silver for project (20-gauge sterling silver sheet, 10-gauge square sterling silver wire), all banding silver, titanium solder pick to use, scribe, Pripps flux, silver hard and medium wire solder, saw blades, glues for inlay, stabilizer glues, 3M and black Cratex wheels on Dremel points, green scrubby, pencil and disposable goods. Does include some banding stones and wood.

This is an two-day introductory class, the first of a three-part series on cutting faceted gemstones. The following topics will be covered:

In the third and final class in the Fundamentals of Silversmithing Course, the student will create a
sterling silver pendant featuring a round or oval cabochon. This class consists of two four-hour
classes. The following topics will be covered:

Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese technique where you braid many small cords or fibers together to make a thicker, stronger cord. Recently this technique has become very popular by adding beads to the cords. It makes beautiful cords for necklaces and bracelets. You can weave in or add a focal on a slide. Beginners will learn the basics and then work into creating patterns with different bead colors and shapes. Class fees are per 3-hour sessions and students will need a Kumihimo disk and eight bobbins which can be purchased from the instructor. Students will be given a list of places where they can purchase their own beads if needed.
Table Crafts are $10/ 3 hrs plus materials and Instructor fees
Learn how to wrap stones or cabochons with craft wire, and turn them into jewelry you can wear. Learn how to make a shaped frame, add a bail, and close all the excess wire. Your three-hour class will include at least two completed projects.
Take your wire wrapping skills to the next level. Learn how to manipulate and shape wire, make a bail, and wrap to complement the design of the stone. Your three-hour class will include at least two completed projects.
You will learn how to weave wire into strips, shaping these wire strips around your stone to create a frame (similar to a bezel) capturing your beautiful Cabochon.
Viking knit is a method of weaving with fine wire to approximate the look of a knitted chain. This class is by appointment only. It takes approximately two 2-hour sessions. The technique can be learned in about 2 hours; you would take it home and complete the weaving to use up the remainder of your wire or to about three-quarters of the finished length you desire. The second session would consist of pulling the woven rope through a draw plate to reduce it to a diameter that you would like.
We offer open shop hours for $6 per hour to work on your own projects.

Intarsia is the process of starting from the inside and working to the outside. This can be done in any number of materials. In this class, we use stone, glass and man-made composite. The finished product looks like little pictures with frames around them. Because we have one intarsia machine, there can be only student at a time. All classes are by appointment only. You need to be competent in cabbing skills, plus understand the care and safety of machine use. This class can only meet on days when the lapidary shop is open. Materials cost varies.
Prerequisite: You must have taken the Beginning Cabochon class.
This is an introductory class on opal cutting. The following general topics will be covered in the class: recognizing the different types of opal fire, selecting opal rough, determining the shape of an opal, selecting the top of the opal, exposing the fire in a “patch and color” opal, cutting without over cutting, polishing the opal. Students will also be taught the proper operation and care of a cabbing machine. Each student will complete a minimum of 4 stones - Boulder Opal, Mexican Fire Opal and 2 Australian Opals
Prerequisite: Must have completed Beginning Cabochon, plus have at least six months of active cabbing experience.
Intarsia Making Classes Near Tampa Bay
Intarsia is the art of starting from the inside and working outward, using materials like stone, glass, and man-made composites. In this intarsia making class near Tampa Bay, students will create intricate designs that resemble little framed pictures. Due to the availability of one intarsia machine, only one student can attend at a time. All classes are by appointment only.
Participants must be competent in cabbing skills and understand the care and safety of machine use. This jewelry making course can only meet on days when the lapidary shop is open. Material costs vary.
Prerequisite: Completion of the Beginning Cabochon class.
